Gwen Newton's photos from the Past
Below are some photos Bevan took back in the days when Elwyn
Evans was our boatman. Bevan (who was our Chairman for several years) used
to regularly drive down to the Lleyn from Staffordshire, arriving at Garnfadryn
on the mainland where Elwyn lived on a smallholding under the hill with his wife
Annie and their lovely children. They would then drive down to Porth
Meuddwy very early in the morning and launch the Observatory's boat "The
Invader" which you see below. There are also some photos of the
smallholding and the boathouse where Elwyn took the boat in the winter to carry
out repairs and modifications. Elwyn was a trained Clinker built
boatbuilder and was in great demand for repairs to the large yachts moored in
Pwhelli Marina. Elwyn died of CJD.
